TEACHERS

The Perth Insight Meditation Group is a not-for-profit organization of a small group of people who support meditation retreats in Perth.

As the group has strengthened over a 15 year period, several Perth based retreats are organized annually, led by a range of visiting lay and ordained teachers invited from around the world.

 

Sky Dawson

Sky Dawson has practiced vipassana meditation since 1981 and completed the Insight Meditation Society Teacher Training Program (USA) in 2005. She lives in Western Australia where she teaches the dharma. She also has extensive experience in hospice and palliative care.

She runs weekly meditation sittings at her home and monthly half day retreats.

 

 

Steven Armstrong

Has practiced mindfulness since 1975, and has led vipassana and metta retreats grounded in the Buddha’s understanding of mind, since 1990.

He is a co-founding director and guiding teacher of Ho’omalamalama, a Dhamma sanctuary and hermitage on Maui.

Steve is on the Teaching Staff of IMS at Barre Massachusetts and is a founding teacher of the Perth Insight Meditation Group.

Kamala Masters

Began practicing in 1975,and under the guidance of Anagarika Munindra and Sayadaw U Pandita, she has been trained in vipassana and metta meditations.

She is co-founder of the Vipassana Metta Foundation on Maui and is currently developing Ho’omalamalama, a sanctuary-hermitage for long-term practice.

Kamala is on the Teaching Staff at IMS and is a founding teacher of the Perth Insight Meditation Group.

Guy Armstrong

Has practiced insight meditation for over 20 years.

His training includes practice as a Buddhist monk in Thailand with Ajahn Buddhadasa.
He began teaching in 1984 and has led retreats in the US, Europe and Australia.Guy is a guiding teacher at Spirit Rock Meditation Centre, California.

Sally Clough

Began practicing vipassana meditation in India in 1981.

She spent five years in England, where she managed a retreat center and was a founding member of the Sharpham meditation community.

When she moved to California in 1988, she continued her dharma service at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in a number of roles, including executive director.

Sally began teaching in 1996, and is one of the guiding teachers of Spirit Rock's Dedicated Practitioner Program.

Patrick Kearney

Has nearly 30 years experience in Buddhist meditation, in both the Zen and Theravada traditions.

Since 1984 he has trained in vipassana (insight) meditation in the tradition of Mahasi Sayadaw of Burma.

His teachers have included Robert Aitken Roshi, Sayadaw U Pandita, Sayadaw U Lakkhana, Sayadaw U Janaka, John Hale and Christopher Titmuss.

Patrick is based in Canberra, and teaches retreats, workshops and classes around Australia.
He teaches both the techniques of meditation and the theory that underlies them.

Patrick has put the whole set of talks - thirty - he gave at the January 2008 retreat in the Blue Mountains Insight Meditation Centre in NSW on his website.

Daw Ariya Nani

Was born in Switzerland, and ordained with Sayadaw U Janaka in Burma in 1992, after many years of Buddhist practice.
Based at Sayadaw’s forest center of Chanmyay Yeiktha, she translates for and assists foreign meditators.
She also teaches vipassana retreats in Australia and Europe.

 

 

Sayadaw U Tejaniya

Sayadaw U Tejaniya began his Buddhist training as a young teenager in Burma under the late Shwe Oo Min Sayadaw (1913–2002). Twelve years ago, following life as a householder with a business career, he ordained as a monk. He teaches meditation at Shwe Oo Min Dhammasukha Tawya in Rangoon, Burma.
