Retreats 2009/10

Progress of New Retreat Centre

Jhana Grove Retreat Centre, Serpentine for photos of progress at Jhana Grove Retreat Centre. Due to rising costs and theft from the building site of roofing material for 4 houses, $500,000 has been granted by the Lotteries Commission for finishing projects, to help furbish the hall, provide cabinet work and for landscaping. The building phase is virtually completed, with finishing underway.

PIMG’s first opportunity to use this purpose built Buddhist Meditation Centre will be with Patrick Kearney’s retreat in October 2009. We are excited to be able to use this centre.

Official Opening of Jhana Grove on April 10th.
Ajahn Brahm has extended a welcoming invitation to all PIMG members to attend the official opening. See the Buddhist Society of W.A website for further information.

Once the Jhana Grove Retreat Centre is completed, residential meditation retreats will be offered from 2009 free of charge, with the cost of food and maintenance supported by unsolicited donations given out of gratitude from those who have enjoyed the facilities.

PIMG Retreats for 2008
PIMG ran three highly successful retreats this year, with Patrick Kearney from the Blue Mountains teaching for 2 weeks in April, Sayadaw U Tejaniya from Burma teaching for two weeks in May, and Daw Ariya Nani from Switzerland teaching for 2 weeks in July. All three retreats were fully booked and many new people have joined PIMG’s membership through attending these retreats.
Farewell to Ray James
Ray James was an inaugural Committee member of PIMG. He contributed to the early management of retreats, and helped to bring Steve Armstrong and other overseas teachers to Perth. Ray assisted his long time partner and Insight teacher, Sky Dawson, in the running of PIMG’s One day Retreats at Beaconsfield Yoga Centre over the last few years, and Ray ran the popular stretching sessions at these days of silent practice.

Ray left his body on 24th June 2008, after a year of illness, and was blessed with a personal meeting with Sayadaw U Teyjaniya, who visited Perth to teach in the preceding month. Our sincere condolences to Sky, who nursed Ray through his illness, and who has also been a very active member of PIMG, since its inception.
